Healthcare: A Critical Issue for all Nevadans

Putting it simply, here are some of my key positions on health care.

America can’t afford to let almost 50 million people go without healthcare; it costs all of us in the long run. That’s why I support compelling insurance companies to provide low cost healthcare plans for all Americans.

• We need to ban pre-existing conditions in the American healthcare system.

• We need to do a better job controlling costs with electronic medical records.

Some startling facts about health care in Nevada:

• Since year 2000, the number of Nevadans who spend more than a tenth (10th) of their pretax income on health care has increased by 155%.

• Also since 2000, there has beeen a 188% increase in the number of Nevada families that pay more than 25% of their income for health care as well. (Folks, that needs to change for the better!)

• More than 700,000 Nevadans under 65 years of age are paying more than a tenth (10th) of their income for health care.

• Of these, more than 200,000 families are paying more than 25% of their income for health care.
